Ekphrasis is... Ekphrasis refers to a verbal or written piece of work produced in response to a visual artwork. The earliest examples of ekphrastic poetry were written in response to objects such as goblets, urns, weapons and armor, whereas contemporary ekphrastic poetry responds to paintings, songs, sculptures and various works of art. Ditchart ekphrasis is poetry in response to sculpture. The word ekphrasis comes from the Greek words ek, meaning 'out', and phrasis, meaning 'speak'. |
